Majestic Revival

Majestic Revival is a series of community screenings at Majestic Theatre over the 3rd weekend of each month starting in November 2016, December 2016 and January 2017. This screening is to pay tribute to the rich cinematic heritage of Majestic as a cinema by showing heritage films of the past and showcasing cinematic talent of the present. Majestic Theatre (previously Majestic Cinema, ) was built in 1929 and became the first cinema in Penang to screen Chinese talkies. The theatre was built by Khoo Sian Ewe who was a prominent philanthropist at that time. Whilst many old cinemas in Penang has been converted into restaurants, supermarkets or furniture shops, Majestic Theatre prides itself for being the only one left in George Town; by not just staying true to its cinematic roots but to evolve into a unique events venue. This Majestic Revival Community Film Screening is a way of linking the past and present.
Tickets will be priced at RM1 per movie (to reflect old cinema prices) and free for students and over 65s. There will be 500 seats allocated per movie and the ticket counter will start selling tickets an hour before the start of each movie, available on a first come first served basis.
